stephen langton goulet lix overview 1980 - 2020
I first met Joe Batter, in the Fall of 1979, over a coffee shop discussion centered around the Golden Section.
He was a master design draftsman. I rendered highly detailed pen and inkdot drawings.
Our collaboration began in early 1980 with the rediscovery of the, "lix unit" and the Mother of all scales,
"lixcaliber", an artifact revealed through the mean distance from the Sun to Venus
and later found embedded in the heart of the Great Pyramid at Gizeh.
From 1980 through 1993 Joe and i produced four scale drawings based on the "pyrameter", a triangle Joe found within pi, phi
and the slope angle of quartz crystal. It establishes the angle, between the base and the height of the pyramid, as slightly less than
90 degrees. All the block courses slope nearly four minutes of degree down towards the center. Application of the pyrameter triangle
accounts for the integrity of this ancient structure as earthquakes tend to tighten the joints.

After Joe passed in 1994, i collated what remained of our project and opened a webpage, the "lix unit", in '96, followed by
"lixcaliber", in '98, from an internet cafe in Sidney B.C.. I'll always be grateful to Jim and Diana at klatu,
for their patience and kindness through those early years.
In 2008, while reworking Joe's number codes, i realized the two upper chambers fit geometrically
inside each other and built a half size prototype in the backyard.
